I consider myself a painter who creates art not as much for myself, but to communicate my feelings openly without the use of words. Through my pieces I infuse my thoughts and feelings into images in order to get my message across to others. This is why I chose art and painting as my media. It’s a way of expression, and articulation.

I use acrylic as my agent, painting on large sheets of pressboard. I begin with quick strokes, getting my immediate idea down on the surface as soon as possible before the concept disappears from my mind. By painting while excited, my first layer is very abstract, I paint very lose allowing all my marks to show, not attempting to blend my colors. After that, I build up each coating until my painting becomes more complete, and develops its own texture/aesthetic. My work is very figure oriented; I chose subjects who are very close to me, and who I feel have the ability to model my personal thoughts. I tend to exaggerate wrinkles, and shadows through the use of dramatic lighting and powerful/bold colors because they give each painting a more tragic/moving quality.
